In this Joomla Tutorials, i will be creating a new module in Joomla 1.7. To creat a new module, login to Joomla as administrator, by simply entering the yoursite.com/administrator in your Browser. Enter the appropriate username and password {which was provided while installing Joomla} and then click on Login.
After logging in to the Admin backend, a Control Panel opens.
The Control Panel provides access to many default Joomla! functions and features. From the Control Panel, you can create and manage articles and categories. Other features available in the Control Panel are the media, menu, language, and user managers.
In the top menu, locate the link Extensions. Click on Extensions, from the drop down menu that appears click on Module Manager as shown in Image 1.

To create a new module in Joomla 1.7, click on New as shown in Image 2.

There are 23 default modules provided by Joomla 1.7 CMS. From the list of the modules click on Custom HTML which allows us to create our own (i.e. customized) HTML Module using a WYSIWYG editor as shown in Image 3.
NOTE: This process permits the creation of any customized module which can be displayed to site visitors within the template chosen.

On click of the link Login you will see details of all module parameters that you will need to edit. Enter the title of the module. Select the Hide radio button of the Show Title attribute (if required). Click on Select Position on the page which allows you to select a position on the template where the module will be displayed in the active template. This process binds the custom module created to a specific position in the Joomla template for display.

After clicking Select Position a lightbox is displayed showing all the positions of the active template. Click on a position in this where you want the custom module displayed as shown in Image 5.

After all you’ve configured all the parameters as desired, you’re done.
Just Click on Save & Close as shown in Image 6, in order to save the module and close the edit screen.
You can also click Save, in order to save your current work and stay on the editable screen.

On the frontend of your website, you will be able to view the module at the specific position of your Joomla 1.7 template as shown in Image 7.

Similarly, you can add other modules to appropriate position s within your Joomla 1.7 template.
